Green Pastures Study/New Painting

Green Pastures

Green Pastures Study  4 1/2″ x 9 1/2″.  Robert has been working on ideas for larger paintings.  This little study is one of my favorites.

Brighton Shadows Study/New Painting

Brighton Shadows Study

Brighton Shadows Study 5″ x 8″.  Robert was so inspired by the scenery on our winter hike that he came home and painted this little study.  He was satisfied enough  with the composition, etc. that he thought it would be worth putting effort into a larger painting.  Stay tuned….

Diamonds

Diamonds in the Snow

Shadows

Robert and I went on a winter hike looking for subject material.  As I’ve mentioned more than a hundred times Robert loves to paint snow.  It was a gorgeous day.  The sky was brilliant blue and the ice crystals in the snow were sparkling like diamonds.  Monday I’ll post the great little snow study he painted after our outing.

Upper Ranch/New Painting

Upper Ranch

Upper Ranch is 11″ x 15″.  This painting answers the question of “How long did it take to paint this painting?”  Robert has visited this location numerous times over the past several years in different seasons.   He felt there was a painting there but needed to be more familiar with the idea he wanted to present and the way he wanted to handle it in watercolor. Robert says there is something to be said for understanding your subject before you paint it. After looking at it in every season he found what he wanted in winter.  (Of course he LOVES to paint snow, so that always helps!)  He is happy with how it turned out and to answer the question “How long did it take to paint?”   It began 5 years ago….

2012 Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale recap

Robert's Wall

Robert sent 5 paintings to the Coors show and 4 sold at the silent auction. (see empty spaces above!)  Richmond Barn and Tin Roof  were the most popular.  (see bid sheets below!)

Robert thought it was really cool to have his work hanging next to the work of Dean Mitchell*.  In Robert’s opinion artist Dean Mitchell is the man (or at least one of the men) in the world of watercolor painters.  Thanks to Rose Frederick for curating such a fabulous show and special thanks to our friend Jeff Ware (Mr. Awesome) for contributing photos and info.

*In the photo “Robert’s Wall” Dean Mitchell’s paintings are the three hanging to the right.

The Front Porch/New Painting

The Front Porch

Image size 9 1/2″ x 13 1/2″.  This is the third new painting that Robert has been working on over the last little while.

October Morning-Summit County

October Morning-Summint County is the full size painting done from “Summit County Study.”  Image size is 10 1/2″ x 17″. We were on our way to one of our favorite bike rides when we took a shortcut through Summit County to see the colors.  We passed by this barn and Robert just had to paint it (he has been in barn mode lately, kind of like snow mode last winter!).
