I went to the doctor today with my fingers crossed. I’ve been going to physical therapy and have been diligent about doing my exersises for my shoulder. He looked at my scar and my x-rays and said “you can go on a bike ride and I’ll see you in 3 months.” He didn’t know how close I came to giving him a hug and a kiss. I came home, promptly put on my bike clothes and new helmet, pumped up my tires, grabbed Robert and we went for a ride. It felt great, I wasn’t even nervous until Robert got close to me and then I had visions of flying over the handlebar . It will be awhile before I’ll be drafting. The Dr.’s final advice to me was “Be Careful!” Believe me, I’m taking that advice.
We heard snow was coming to the canyon. Robert and I decided to take advantage of our last warm day by hiking to Lake Blanche which is up Big Cottonwood Canyon. It was a beautiful day. The sun filtering down through the trees turned the reds and golds brilliant. We were on our way down when Robert stopped and said “look there is a moose.” I peeked through the bushes and there was a female moose and her yearling about 20 feet off the trail calmly eating next to the stream. I mentioned to Robert that I had just read that more people are killed by moose than any other wild animal. He then said “Oh hey, there is a bull moose.” I was just moving over to take a look when all of a sudden we heard this low moaning sound. Robert said “Oh my gosh, here he comes!” and he came crashing through the bushes at a trot right towards us. We took off running down the trail. My mind was going over “do we stop and look him in the eye?” “Do we scramble up a tree?” It didn’t matter I wasn’t going to stop until I heard the moaning stop. We ran for a long ways. When we stopped my knees were shaking. I guess he didn’t want us messing with his lady!
The name of Robert’s newest painting is “Wild Turkeys.” A title a day late!
My tip for the day is don’t ride too closely! I always draft on Robert. That way I can keep up with him. We were going on a route we have been on thousands of times and I was drafting but I was also thinking of something else. Whoops, big mistake! The next thing I knew my tire was touching Robert’s and I was on the ground with major road rash and a broken collar bone-surgery required. Now that means that Bike riding, artist, Robert has now become Bike riding, Artist, Chef, Nursemaid Robert. Heavy on Nursemaid, Chef, light on Artist, Bike riding! Look for Art Sale to pay bills!
Robert is just completing “Second Avenue”. Can’t wait to post it.
June is one of my favorite months of the year and I’m sad to see it go. I love the long, not too hot days and no school. This year has been especially “not too hot” with the Seattle weather we’ve been having. Robert has been enjoying the fabulous sunsets. He has begun work on a new painting and it is always exciting to see how it unfolds.
I learned something new. Cupcakes seem to be the rage right now, so I went to a class and learned how to spice up my cupcakes with fun designs. The problem is they are too cute to eat. Well… Sam didn’t have a problem eating them!
A long time ago I had the opportunity to learn Spanish. I could speak it fairly well until I quit using it. I can understand but I’ve become too self conscious to speak it. I worry about my pronunciation and I’ve forgotten verbs etc. Once in a while when I’m desperate I can summon up the ability to say something. For example, ordering food at McDonald’s or when some friends from Honduras came to town. Well today my friend Cheryl dropped in accompanied by a girl from Peru. Cheryl doesn’t speak Spanish except for a very few words. She needed to tell this girl some things and wanted me to translate. Daniela didn’t speak English except for a few words. It was so fun! As she (Daniela) spoke to me in her perfectly enunciated spanish I could feel my brain shaking off the cobwebs and pulling out spanish words. I could talk to her! and she was grateful to be able to talk to me. Thanks to Cheryl for bringing her by.
