10 Reasons You Should Buy Art

I can hear Robert in his studio readying all the things he will need for this years “Where in the World Plein Air Event 2015”.  He has been working in his studio since 8:00 a.m. and it is now 10:30 p.m.  Time goes fast for him in his studio because he loves what he is doing.  I have to remind him to come and eat dinner!  I just read Edward Winkleman’s blog piece titled “10 Reasons Why You Should Buy Art” and I think of Robert and all the artist’s I know who work really hard and love what they are doing and it shows in their work.

  1. Buy art because you like it.
  2. Buy art because you can.
  3. Or, save up and stretch yourself to buy art because it enables you to participate in the culture of your time.
  4. Buy art as an heirloom for your family.
  5. Buy art for its ability to cheer you up (or otherwise make you think) at times in your life when nothing else makes sense.
  6. Buy art because you’re an adult, and you should have some original art among your possessions.
  7. Buy art so you can illustrate to your children, with a straight face, that money is not the most important thing in life.
  8. Buy art because it’s fun to be part of the art world. [admittedly, your mileage may vary on that one]
  9. Buy art to impress your potential mates, or their parents.
  10. Buy art to support artists. They make our world so much more interesting and our darkest days so much more bearable. I’m not even sure how you can put a price on that. Seriously.

Where in the World….Plein Air 2015

Robert and bike

Robert and I have been having a great time scoping out painting locations for “Where in the World..Plein Air 2015”.  The event is June 10, 11 and 12th.  Go here to see Robert’s video’s and paintings.  Utah is so beautiful especially from the seat of a bike!

Where in the World Is…Plein Air 2015

Last year Robert had so much fun being involved in the Where in the World Show sponsored by Authentique Gallery.  He painted in  Kamas, Utah,  Little Egypt (an area in Idaho)  and at the base of  Little Cottonwood Canyon.  I had fun videoing him and going along to watch the action.  (Actually I usually took my bike and went for a ride while Robert was working!)  My favorite video is this one  and  Robert ended up painting  this fabulous painting.

Robert delivered his paintings from the “Where in the World is… Plein Air Show” today to Illume Gallery in Salt Lake City.   You will be able to see all the pieces from the show on June 27th and 28th. Robert was working like crazy to get the frames done by today.  I think they turned out great!   To see his videos from the event go here.

Summer in Little Egypt

Summer in Little Egypt

Robert was painting in an area known as “Little Egypt.”  It is near  the small town of Preston.  At the end of the 19th century the crops failed in the surrounding area so people came to “Little Egypt” to get grain.  It was compared to the Biblical Egypt and that was how it got it’s nickname. Robert loves this area.  While Robert was painting the neighbor came out and told him that this particular farm was where Ezra Taft Benson was born and raised.  Ezra Taft Benson was Secretary of Agriculture during the Eisenhower Administration  and was also  13th President of the LDS Church.

Where in the World Plein Air Show has been fun.  For more information about how to purchase these paintings or to see Robert’s videos  click here.
